I laminated some red cedar boards so I could cut a circle about 18" diameter. It started out about 1-1/2" to 2" thick. I made it using a WEN LA3424, 12" lathe! How? Good Question! I turned the headstock 180 degrees and reversed the top belt sheave. I can now turn 'Out-Board'. Only problem is I have to make a new stand alone tool rest...

I want to talk about how we see ourselves—not through the lens of our shame and faults, but through God's redeeming grace. To do this, let's look at two of the Bible's most prominent figures: Moses and King David.
Both of these men were defined by God not for their failures but for their faith and obedience, which grew stronger despite their mistakes. They were not perfect; they were perfectly human.
Moses, for example, was a man with a temper. In a moment of anger and frustration at the Israelites, he struck a rock instead of speaking to it as God commanded. This single act of disobedience prevented him from entering the Promised Land. But that is not where God's story for Moses ends. When God speaks of Moses later, He doesn't call him a "failed leader." Instead, He declares Moses to be "very humble, more so than anyone else on the face of the earth" (Numbers 12:3). God's gentle, long-suffering work transformed Moses over the years, from an impulsive young man to a meek and faithful servant who had an intimate relationship with his Lord.
King David, too, knew the depths of sin. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and then had her husband, Uriah, killed to cover his tracks. These were horrific acts with devastating consequences. Yet, God's ultimate view of David is forever preserved in Scripture: "a man after My own heart" (Acts 13:22). Why? Because when confronted with his sin, David did not justify it; he repented deeply. His great, heartfelt remorse is preserved for us in Psalm 51, where he cries out for cleansing and restoration. God saw beyond the temporary darkness of David's sin and saw the true nature of his heart—a heart that, at its core, was passionately devoted to Him.
The power in these stories is not that these men were flawless. The power is that God looked past their flaws and defined them by their purpose, their successes, and their spirit of repentance.
How often do we do the opposite to ourselves? We let a single mistake, a moment of weakness, or a pattern of past failures become our entire identity. We label ourselves as "failures," "unworthy," or "stained".
But the Bible offers us a new and better label. If you are in Christ, your identity is not rooted in your performance or your past. Your worth comes from who God says you are: a beloved child, fully forgiven, and a new creation. Just as God focused on David's repentant heart and Moses's ultimate faithfulness, He looks at you through the redemptive lens of His grace.
So today, let's stop replaying our failures and start embracing our redemption. Let's move past the shame that tries to define us and fix our eyes on the God who calls us His own. Let's live defined not by the shadow of our mistakes, but by the light of His incredible grace.
