The Last Customer That Saw A Train on this Abandoned Railroad
These are the last 12 miles of the CSX Homestead Subdivision which were officially abandoned in March 2019. As I remember, Diamond R Fertilizer was the last customer on the line to receive a delivery and until 2012 or 2013, there were some covered hoppers at this location. The line was used for storage until 2016, it has not been used since. All of the former customers on the line have switched over to trucking. In this area, it is all agriculture, there is no production or industry, so sadly, there is no need for a freight train around here. It would make a great passenger line though! Tri Rail we need you here! This historic railway was built in 1926 by Seaboard Air Line to bring tourism to the area and even connected with the Miami Extension of the FEC Overseas Railroad along US 1 en route to Florida Keys and Key West but that was destroyed by the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane. This line played a vital role in the economic development of South Florida as we know it! And now it is just rotting away. Shot out to Mike Thornton for my rolling stock!
