The Van & Trike Tour reaches its FINAL bike shop! 🚐🚲
After traveling across North America visiting recumbent bike and trike shops, I’ve made it to my last stop: The Bike Guy in Raleigh, North Carolina.
And what a place to finish.
The Bike Guy is absolutely PACKED with bikes and recumbent trikes, with a huge selection from brands across the recumbent world. Even better, the shop sits right alongside Raleigh’s incredible greenway trail system — so naturally, we had to take the trikes out for a ride!
We explore the shop, talk about how The Bike Guy became involved with recumbent trikes, and discuss why these machines have opened cycling to an entire group of riders who weren’t being well served by traditional bicycles.
Then we hit the trail.
Along the way we encounter deer, talk about why riding a recumbent can feel like being in a “land kayak,” discuss cycling infrastructure, crash a drone into a fence 😬, grab some food, and enjoy one final ride together.
There’s also a conversation in this episode that really stuck with me: sometimes riding isn’t about speed, distance or exercise. Sometimes it’s simply about giving yourself an hour to do something you enjoy.
After thousands of miles of driving, dozens of shop visits, countless trike rides and meeting some incredible people across North America, this is the final bike shop visit of the Van & Trike Tour.
I’m glad this was the place where that part of the journey ended.
