These numbers are of membership to different denominations or churches. In many cases the numbers are estimates as there is no universal proper methodology. There were census questions until 1950 on religion and there have been various self-reported records kept depending on the church and a few notable trackers such as the World Almanac and Yearbook of American Churches.
- For more recent Catholic numbers, there are official membership counts in the 2016 and 2023 Official Catholic Directory that I was able to find.
- For more recent UMC numbers, I used umdata.org
- For the Eastern Orthodox numbers, I tried my best based off of multiple estimates summed up here: orthodoxhistory.org/2024/12/03/how-many-orthodox-christians-are-in-america
