The Memory Project, a program of Historica Canada, proudly presents our 2025 Remembrance Panel - Korea 75: Reflections on the Forgotten War. Join us this Remembrance season to hear three veterans reflect on their service.
The panelists today served with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Korean War, often called the Forgotten War, which started 75 years ago in 1950.
Leading Seaman, Communication and Visual 2 (ret) Andy Barber joined the Navy in 1951, and served for five years. He spent 22 months as a crew member of HMCS Haida during her second tour of the Korean War.
Corporal (ret) Romeo Daley joined the military at 18, and served two tours during the Korean War with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in 1951/52, as well as qualifying for his paratrooper wings in 1954. He served six years in the military.
Petty Officer, 2nd Class (ret) Ron Foyle spent 5 years in the Canadian Navy. He served a 14-month tour in Korea aboard the Canadian Destroyer HMCS Cayuga.
Carol Off, our moderator, the former host of CBC’s As It Happens, has worked as a radio correspondent and television journalist on news, politics, and current affairs in Canada and around the world. Carol’s latest book, At a Loss for Words: Conversation in an Age of Rage, was published in 2024.

Les panélistes ont servi dans les Forces armées canadiennes pendant la guerre de Corée, souvent appelée la guerre oubliée, qui a débuté il y a 75 ans, en 1950.
Le matelot de 1re classe, communication et visuel 2 (à la retraite) Andy Barber s'est enrôlé dans la Marine en 1951 et a servi pendant cinq ans. Il a passé 22 mois comme membre d'équipage du NCSM Haida pendant sa deuxième mission dans la guerre de Corée.
Le caporal (à la retraite) Romeo Daley s'est engagé dans l'armée à l'âge de 18 ans et a participé à deux missions pendant la guerre de Corée avec le Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry en 1951/52, avant d'obtenir son brevet de parachutiste en 1954. Il a servi pendant six ans dans l'armée.
