This weekend Jill and I headed down to Jialeshuei in southern Taiwan to take part in the annual Jialeshuei Surfing Festival. It's my first time competing overseas so this was an awesome experience for me.
As the name suggests, the festival is all about surfing! But it's not only the shortboarders who get all the fun. The event also hosts a longboarding and bodyboarding section which attracts loads of riders from around the country.
I heard about the contest by chance and decided to give it a go. I've competed for many years back home in South Africa, so riding in and international event seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up.
The weather was insane and the waves were challenging, but at the end of the day, I met some amazing people, got to surf somewhere I'd never been before and managed to sneak in a 2nd place finish. In all - not too bad...
