In this very living room and in this very chair, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. watched live as President Lyndon B. Johnson declared, “We shall overcome.” This living room belonged to Dr. Sullivan and Mrs. Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson, who opened their Selma, Alabama, home as a place of refuge for King and other leaders during the 1965 Voting Rights Movement.
