September 1943. Italy had just signed an armistice with the Allies, but the German military wasn’t going to let them go without a fight. As German forces launched Operation Achse to disarm the Italians, the port of Bastia in Corsica became the site of a chaotic naval clash. After a surprise German assault seized Italian ships in harbor, the Italian torpedo boat Aliseo, under Commander Carlo Fecia di Cossato, launched a daring counterattack.
