Pierce Brosnan talks about his first time to star as James Bond in the film 'GoldenEye'.

In Dublin for the premiere of the latest James Bond film 'GoldenEye', the seventeenth in the series, Brosnan is asked by a Late Late Show audience member is he thinks the Bond films are becoming too over the top. No is his answer, as there’s still a big audience for these movies, and he believes as film it stands on its own.

Presenter Gay Byrne wonders how the Navan man is coping with being perceived as a sex symbol?

I’m not doing anything about it at all, it’s taking care of itself in its own time.

Now living in the Californian coastal city of Malibu, he does not feel his freedom has been curtailed because of his James Bond role,

I like being around people, and the job I do is very simple, I'm just an actor.

In 'GoldenEye', Bond drives a BMW, but prior to driving that on set a Porche arrived in his Pierce's personal possession. The director of 'Robinson Crusoe' wanted him to work for two extra days on the film, which did not suit his already busy schedule. A luxury car as payment in kind eased the discomfort of it all.

I said, what about a Porche? And he said yes, and that was it.

An audience member asks if the comparisons between himself and previous Bond actors bother him. Pierce Brosnan says he was fully aware of this from the outset and it comes down to having the confidence in yourself to portray the role to the best of your ability. Being compared to other actors and being judged on your performances is all part of the job, so.

If they don’t like it, they don’t like it. You try and do the best job you possibly can.

This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 24 November 1995. The presenter is Gay Byrne.
