One of the most prominent carols among any critic, clergy or citizen, these lines are represented in nearly every collection of Baptist or protestant hymns. Its narrative flow is readily understood by the young and unburdensome to the mature saint. The music that awakens the lines was adapted from one of the masters - George Frederick Handel. At the request of various friends and by his own design, he composed specific tunes for various hymns; but Handels enduring hymn tunes are those adapted from his other labors.
