This WWII military history documentary covers the most cursed submachine guns of the Second World War. Every weapon on this list has something horribly wrong with it, whether it jammed at the worst possible moment, went off when dropped, or was literally designed to be thrown away.
This firearms history video covers how Britain went from losing 11,000 machine guns at Dunkirk to producing 4 million Sten guns at half a pound each. You'll learn why soldiers called it the "Stench Gun" and "Plumber's Nightmare," and how its accidental discharge problem led to a joke about clearing rooms by cocking the Sten and throwing it inside. Then there's the American M3 Grease Gun, initially classified as disposable with no spare parts manufactured, and the Reising M50 that Marines were literally throwing into rivers at Guadalcanal.
The video gets into the Australian Owen Gun, built by a 23-year-old with no engineering training using car parts, which somehow outperformed every other submachine gun in jungle conditions. And finally, the German MP 3008 from the Primitive Weapons Program, a last-ditch weapon with such decentralized production that no two were quite alike. Some of these WWII submachine guns served for decades despite their flaws, while others were abandoned as fast as soldiers could steal replacements.
