On the 9th November 1938, Jews living in Germany, Austria and parts of Czechoslovakia newly annexed were targeted in a series of attacks, arrests and vandalism. Seizing upon an assassination of a German Embassy official, dozens were killed and thousands rounded up in what is generally seen as the start of the Holocaust.
