I have the holy grail of NOW releases in my vinyl collection. This is Now That’s What I Call Music 35, originally released in late 1996. On the surface this may seem like any other NOW album, but what makes this so special, is that this is the very last NOW album to be released on vinyl. Given how little vinyl was coming out in 1996, the fact this exists on the format at all is a marvel in itself.
This double LP comes with a colourful cover, and opening the gatefold reveals all the artists featured on the compilation, plus information about the track, chart positions and more. I’ve said it before, but you just don’t see this kind of detail in modern day compilations sadly, bring it back!
NOW 35 has all the biggest hits from late 1996, including tunes by the Spice Girls, George Michael, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys and a whole lot more, spanning multiple different genres of music. All 40 tracks are featured here on the vinyl release across two discs.
As this is the very last vinyl release in the NOW series, the rarity of this one does impact the price. For one in decent condition, the minimum you’ll often be expected to pay is £100, with a lot of listings even pushing it to £150 or higher. It’s an absolute joy to have this in my collection, as a long time NOW fan, owning all 35 volumes on vinyl has been a 10-year goal that I’ve finally been able to fulfil.
