American philosopher Martha C. Nussbaum was awarded the 2021 Holberg Prize for her groundbreaking contributions to research in philosophy, law, and related fields. Nussbaum is Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics at the University of Chicago.
The Holberg Prize is awarded annually to a scholar who has made outstanding contributions to research in the humanities, social science, law or theology. The Prize is administered by the University of Bergen, on behalf of the Norwegian governement.
This event was a collaboration bewteen the Holberg Prize and the University of Chicago. It took place on 4 June, 2021, at the Rubenstein Forum (University of Chicago). An Award Ceremony in honour of both the 2020 and 2021 Laureates took place in Bergen, Norway on 9 June, in which video from the Chicago ceremony was included.
