Kalavryta is a town with an elevation of 758 m (2487 ft) located in the mountainous eastcentral part of the regional unit of Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece.
Today it is a famous tourist destination especially during winter because of the nearby ski center. But it is globally known as the place where the Greek War of Independence started in 1821 against the Ottoman Empire and also for the massacre of its population on December 13, 1943 by the German occupying forces, during World War II.
