I need to admit something: I’ve become addicted to the chase—the reviews, the research, the anticipation and the next purchase. The really bad news is that it's not JUST hi-fi! My wake-up call didn’t come from audio equipment. It came when I looked at my watch collection and realized that something I loved had started to feel like weight.
That forced me to ask an uncomfortable question: If YouTube reviews helped create this buying cycle in me, what role do audio reviewers—including me—play in keeping you shopping?
In this video, I share five rules I’m adopting before buying more hi-fi gear, including a cooling-off period, identifying the real problem a purchase will solve, stepping away from reviews and learning to enjoy what I already own.
This isn’t anti-hi-fi, anti-collecting or a vow to never buy anything again. It’s about making deliberate purchases—and remembering that the equipment is supposed to lead us back to the music.
Have you ever looked at your collection and wondered when “enough” became “too much”? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
As always I appreciate you watching and supporting my channel!
