The work of Conservators is briefly explained and demonstrated. The previous condition of the Deborah Hall (42.45) painting is shown in detail. Conservation of the Adoration of the Magi from the Rijksmuseum is depicted. Footage of the Exposition of Painting Conversation that took place in October 22-26, 1962 is featured, showing demonstrations of microscopes, fire extinguishers, photographing art works using a polarizing screen, vacuum hot tables, and museum housekeeping. Conservation staff then show various steps of how they conserve a painting: removing nails and frame, examining it using raking light, creating a new backing using wax resin lining, cleaning, and spraying it with varnish. They examine a forged El Greco by using an x-ray and testing the age of the paint. Finally, the preparations for the return of a painting through examination and packing are explained.
