In this video, Ben McHenry from the South Australian Museum takes us on a journey back in time to Castambul in the Adelaide Hills. Despite its massive historical significance, the Victoria Gold Mine only produced a princely total of 24 ounces of gold during its 5-year run between 1846 and 1851.
However, the real value came from the incredible stories, wild share speculations, and beautifully crafted colonial artifacts left behind. We get an exclusive look at a rare gold nugget specimen directly from the site, as well as a family heirloom—a beautiful gold ring passed down through generations of the Jury family, descendants of one of the original mine captains.
