Alarmingly, a third of patients waiting for an organ transplant come from people from minority ethnic backgrounds, yet it can take six months longer for them to find a match. Hilaria Asumu, 52, waited ten years for a kidney transplant and even prepared her children for her loss. Eventually her life was saved in 2018. She joins us today to highlight the NHS Blood and Transplant campaign aiming to increase the number of black and Asian blood and organ donors - alongside Dr Zoe with all the information you need to make an informed donation.
