A Discussion around the Modern Rolex Submariner and how its design has become increasingly sterile and "soulless" over the decades. The pursuit of perfection is a slippery slope. Modernity tells us that watches have never been better. The Submariner with its iconic status and timelessness is a good candidate that shows us what happens over the decades when some of its character is slowly chipped away (in an effort to manifest perfection) The question is, should we only judge these watches rationally? Or should we instead fall for the irrationality that made older designs all the more charming?
