Perhaps the most disgraceful event ever in US military history was the My Lai Incident, where hundreds of unarmed civilians lost their lives at the hands of American soldiers. There was at least one American, Hugh Thompson, however, who followed his conscience and, together with his two crew mates, prevented even more casualties in this horrific incident.
