We spend more on health and wellness than almost anything else. But the fad diets, expensive supplements, and quick-fix biohacks aren’t improving our health; they’re making us fatter, sicker, and unhappier.
In this talk, Nick Tiller examines the science—and pseudoscience—behind the modern health and wellness industry. He breaks down how misleading claims gain traction, why popular trends often lack credible evidence, and how cognitive biases and social media fuel the spread of health misinformation. From supplements and detoxes to fitness fads and wearable tech, this presentation offers a clear, evidence-based framework for evaluating health claims and making better decisions about your body and well-being.
Dr. Nick Tiller, PhD, is a British exercise scientist, researcher, and writer. For more than two decades, he's worked across elite sport, clinical populations, and the general public, helping people see through the health and wellness lie. A research associate at the Lundquist Institute, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Tiller is a columnist for Skeptical Inquirer online and author of The Skeptic’s Guide to Sports Science. In 2023, he was named a fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry for his work promoting science literacy and critical thinking.
