The Gobbins RT Project commenced with the removal of Bridge 15 at Gordons Leap Inlet in September 2023 using a 350T crane.
Once removed, ‘Cliff Scaling’ works was undertaken to remove loose material from the rock blocks across the sub-vertical cliff face. This was all undertaken using rope access from the top of the cliff.
Rockfall high tensile mesh with mesh anchors were then installed over the crest of the slope. Specific rocks were retained through the installation of stop rock dowels, and a 500kJ rockfall catch fence was also installed.
During this time maintenance was carried out on the path either side of the bridge and on the bridge itself. Once all cliff works and repairs works were complete, the bridge was lifted back into place on the 30th November 2023. The cliff top path and fence, which had been removed to facilitate the works and rope access, were then reinstalled.
