💬 My name is Caroline O'Donoghue, and I'm an author of supernatural young adult fiction, set mostly in Ireland. I'm also obsessed with lofi music. When I started writing the 'Gifts' trilogy in 2019, I needed a very specific sort of soundtrack to get in the mood. Something that felt atmospheric, full of feeling and drama, but also was silky and amorphous enough that it could drift over my head while I wrote. 'Lofi for Ghosts' was one of the first playlists I listened to on repeat. Really, it's the soundtrack to these books. The more I listened, the more I got into reading the comments on the Lofi pages, and realised that the kinds of people who commented were also the people I was trying to write for. Usually young, filled with a kind of formless longing, a desire to knit magic or at least to be at the center of its web.

I wanted to do this collaboration with Homework Radio in the hopes that some of the people whose comments I've been reading for years might see that I wrote a book for them. Or at least, that we were listening to the same stuff that they were listening to, while I wrote it.
