Today we visit St Gallgo's Church in Wales It was used as a mortuary after the catastrophic wreck of the Roval Charter steamship in October 1859. which claimed over 440 lives off the coast of Moelfre.
Charles Dickens visited the church months later to report on the tragedy for his book The Uncommercial Traveller, deeply moved by how the local rector, Rev. Stephen Roose Hughes, tirelessly cataloged victims possessions and wrote over 1,000 letters to qrieving families. Today, 140 victims remain buried in the churchvard alonaside an obelisk memorial dedicated to the tragedy.
The Church also has a connection to the Irish singer Sinead O'Connor and the churchyard is belived to be haunted by an 8ft tall man.
