Margaret Daneyko, RN, BSN, Vice President of Nursing and Clinical Services at RMA of New York, describes the process for conception using a gestational surrogate (gestational carrier). Gestational surrogacy is a process in which the individual carrying the pregnancy (the gestational surrogate) is not biologically related to the eggs that were used to create the embryo and is not planning to be the intended parent. Gestational surrogacy is an option for women who are unable to carry a pregnancy or when carrying a pregnancy is not recommended, due to medical conditions or a history of recurrent miscarriage / pregnancy loss. Gay male couples and single men may also utilize gestational surrogacy in conjunction with egg donation to build their families.
RMA of New York’s Third-Party Team is committed to guiding intended parents through the surrogacy process. Composed of fertility specialists, nurse practitioners, and other members of the clinical staff, the Third-Party Team is a concierge service that assists individuals in need of an egg and/or sperm donor, and/or a gestational surrogate.
