Pokemon Black and White really did something with these special encounter. I find phenomenon as a mechanic to be very "Pokemon", because I think most players are going to know about Audino, but the depths of it are so vast that there's probably something to discover here for just about everyone. I was so enthralled hunting a wild Metagross as a kid even though it was such a giant time sink because of how the encounters work. There are so many of them and in so many cases ACTUALLY gamebreaking because you can circumvent trade and item requirements, it's really the coolest thing in a corner of Gen 5. Even cooler than Mudkip! This one's for all the Patrat, Suicune, and Leavanny fans out there.
