In today’s episode, I’m breaking down why I believe Adobe Interlocking Blocks are one of the best ways to build in Ghana and much of rural Africa.
For years I’ve explored sustainable building methods throughout Ghana, and one thing continues to stand out to me — the incredible performance of laterite-based adobe construction in our tropical environment. These blocks are cooler, stronger, more efficient, and can help create homes that perform far better over time than many conventional concrete block structures.

One of the most exciting aspects of this building method is that with the right hydraulic press, thousands of blocks can be produced daily using locally sourced materials. That means communities, families, and developers can potentially lower transportation costs, create jobs, manufacture locally, and build more sustainably.
More importantly, I want people to understand that eco-friendly homes do not need to look strange or unconventional. You can build a beautiful, modern, conventional home while still incorporating sustainable solutions that perform better in Africa’s climate.
