Athanatos aged well, at least in my opinion. This was one of the levels that surpassed Bloodbath in difficulty, and was one of the lesser enjoyed Extreme Demons in general. After receiving an update many years after, which supposedly made the level better, I finally decided to give it a shot, and I had a lot of fun playing this!
Personally I can see why people dislike this, and it can be very frustrating to play from 0, but I think the gameplay is quite fun overall. It tests your skill and your patience, in a good way imo, and this level really felt like a challenge to me, so beating it really felt satisfying.
Another reason why I thought this level was bearable is because I was streaming, as well as playing in calls with friends, so I could just autopilot and shut off my focus at the beginning, and only focus once I'm around the mirrored cube part around 40%
