This is one of only two rare, forgotten, and highly ambitious Lotus Evora GTE race cars. Even though they didn't achieve the desired results, its Toyota-derived, naturally aspirated V6 still sounds absolutely unbelievable! Watch it in action at Imola Circuit during the first round of the freshly created Legends of Le Mans championship. This racing series is organized by Peter Auto in partnership with Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) and the World Endurance Championship and it aims to gather LMP1, LMP2 and GTE cars homologated in a period ranging from approximately 2006 to 2012 for LMP1s, from 2006 to 2015 for LMP2s and from 2011 to 2020 for GTE class.
The car was developed for the GT2 class, which was renamed LM GTE in Europe and as GT in the United States after the GT1 class was dropped from ACO competitions for the 2011 season, and unveiled during the 2011 Geneva Motor Show as the Evora Enduro GT concept. It was based on the already successful Evora GT4 Endurance model with the aim to be fielded into various endurance events of that year. Renamed simply Evora GTE, the two cars officially debuted in the 24 Hours of Le Mans tests in April and then were fielded in the
Spa 1000 Kilometres in May. Before these two occasion, the team had only covered 1,000 km of testing so although the car had performed well out of the box, the rush to put the project together was certainly one of the reasons for its failure. The two cars were run by Lotus Jetalliance Racing Team during the whole season but, even though they managed to finish some races, reliability problems, breakdowns and lack of performance compared to their more famous rivals have highlighted the true nature of this beautiful GTE car.
The one you see in this video is chassis P001-002 (car number 64 at Le Mans in 2011) and it's now in the hands of Komo-Tec Motor Technik. After its 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup campaign, it competed in the American Le Mans series with Alex Job Racing in 2012. The Evora GTE it's powered by a Toyota-derived 3.5L V6, heavily developed by Cosworth. This naturally aspirated V6 has a displacement of 4.0-litre, producing approximately 485hp at 7,100 rpm (with air restrictors as per rules), and it's linked to a 6-speed sequential gearbox. It has a dry weight of 1,115 kg.
