Do you remember rushing to the shop after the final whistle to buy the Sports Mail?
Long before social media, smartphones and 24-hour football coverage, thousands of Portsmouth supporters ended every Saturday the same way – by picking up a copy of the Football Mail, later known as the Sports Mail.
In this nostalgic look back, I explore the incredible 119-year history of one of Portsmouth’s most cherished football traditions. From its beginnings in 1903, through Pompey’s promotions, cup runs, triumphs and heartbreaks, right up to the final edition in 2022, the Sports Mail was far more than just a newspaper – it was part of being a Pompey fan.

📰 The final ever Sports Mail published in July 2022
