"I've been learning for 18 months and I'm STILL not fluent!" 😤

Sound familiar?

Here's the thing: this learner wrote down their goals 18 months ago. They wanted to order at restaurants, have simple conversations, understand podcasts. Now they do ALL of those things... and it's not enough.

Watch what happens when their friend pulls out that old journal and makes them read their own goals out loud. The irony hits hard: 18 months ago, they would have killed to be where they are now. And now that they're here, the goalposts have moved.

Now they want to discuss politics. Read Camus. Debate philosophy.

The pattern: Every time you reach a milestone, you immediately redefine "fluent" to be one step further away. You're not "still not fluent"—you're already fluent and want to be MORE fluent. That's completely different.

Notice the key line: "18 months ago this was your dream. Now it's just... Tuesday."

The lesson: Stop and actually see where you are. You've been having this entire conversation in French without even noticing. That WAS the goal. Celebrate it before moving the goalposts again.

Have you caught yourself doing this? What were your original goals vs. where you're beating yourself up now?
