The only honest-to-god heroics in the story of Abraham is his small part in a regional war between four Mesopotamian kings and five local Canaanite vassals. The Mesopotamians crush the insignificant rebellion and take goodies and captives up north. One of the captives is Abraham's brother Lot, which is why Abraham and 300 of his men carry out a night raid to free him and bring back the loot taken from the Canaanites.
