In 1953, two criminals kidnapped and murdered a six-year-old boy, collected the largest ransom in American history, and vanished into a city where the trail went cold.
Eight days later, they were caught.
Half the money was never found.
This film follows the missing $300,000 into bars, motels, backrooms, and the people who handled it.
A corrupt police lieutenant. A mob-connected cab company. A letter read out loud in the wrong place. Cash moving through a brothel, the Teamsters, and possibly a traveling carnival before disappearing for good.
This is a location-based documentary tracing the final days of Carl Austin Hall and Bonnie Heady, and the chain of events that turned a solved crime into an unsolved mystery.
The Greenlease case is one of the most infamous kidnappings in American history. The missing ransom is the part no one ever closed.
