In 2002, the city of Winnipeg was baffled by a highly unusual criminal dubbed the "Fat Bandit." Weighing nearly 300 pounds and escaping in a luxury SUV, this heavily disguised thief managed to pull off seven brazen bank heists across multiple cities, netting around $33,000. The crime spree finally ended on Valentine's Day 2003 with a harrowing 170 km/h high-speed police chase on icy roads. But the biggest shock was the identity of the driver: Klaus Burlakow, a respected senior city bureaucrat who helped organize the 1999 Pan-Am Games.
