The Fallacy Behind the "Can God Die?" Argument
One of the most common questions asked by Unitarians is, "Can God die?" It's often presented as a decisive argument against the deity of Christ. But is it actually a fair question, or is it a loaded question built on a false assumption?
In this video, I respond to a Unitarian rebuttal of Dr. Al Garza's short and explain what I believe was the point he was making. Rather than focusing only on the conclusion, I examine the logic behind the argument itself.
If someone asks, "Can God die?" and then concludes, "Jesus died, therefore Jesus isn't God," they're assuming their conclusion in the question. To illustrate why this reasoning is flawed, I use the same form of argument in reverse:
Can God sin?
If the answer is no, does that automatically prove Jesus is God because Jesus never sinned?
Of course not.
The point isn't that these questions prove or disprove the deity of Christ. The point is that both are loaded questions and neither one, by itself, establishes the conclusion being claimed.
My desire in making this video isn't to mock or belittle Unitarians. I genuinely want them to know the Jesus revealed in Scripture. I believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, the eternal Son who took on human nature for our salvation. If you're a Unitarian watching this, I hope you'll consider the argument carefully and examine the Scriptures with an open heart.
