Most authors need more than a single headshot. In this episode of Adorama TV, photographer Gary Hughes is commissioned to create a collection of portraits for author Cash Fioretti, whose debut novel, Lonewood: The Domino Effect, was released last year as she prepares for her upcoming second novel.
Rather than focusing on a single image, Gary creates three distinct portraits designed to serve different purposes throughout an author's career. The session includes an editorial-style portrait with room for promotional copy, a professional headshot suitable for book jackets and press materials, and a themed portrait inspired by the author's work and personal story.
Along the way, Gary discusses how to plan a portrait session around a client's goals, create meaningful variety without unnecessary complexity, and deliver images that provide value across websites, social media, interviews, speaking engagements, and future marketing efforts.
While this session focuses on an author, the same concepts can be applied to entrepreneurs, speakers, executives, musicians, and personal branding clients who need more than a single headshot.
