The economic implications of what started out as a medical crisis in 2020 have made it clear that way too many individuals from the proverbial West essentially live paycheck to paycheck and as such, should disruptions such as this year's lockdowns occur, many people uninformed outside observers would mistakenly consider wealthy end up essentially unable to get by.
Among other reasons, this harsh reality can be attributed to the debt optimization or over-optimization that has taken place over the years. To put it differently, quite a few Westerners love bragging about how they can effectively juggle debt. They talk about their mortgage, their auto loan(s) as well as their maxed out credit cards and feel proud that they manage to stay afloat and even afford the occasionally facebook post-worthy vacation.
This, unfortunately, is the paycheck to paycheck generation: seemingly wealthy individuals who are anything but resilient and while they enjoy a very good lifestyle today, these consumers (with "consumers" being the operative term) are only one disruption away from being insolvent.
Make no mistake: debt over-optimization represents one of the most dangerous behavior particularities of the paycheck to paycheck generation and this one minute video explains why :(
