The Eastern Whipbird has a range of iconic calls that echo through the forests of South -east Queensland.
The Eastern Whipbird has an incredible vocabulary and the pairs constantly chuckle and call to each other, ensuring that they track each other.
I have spent many years filming their behavior and recording their calls. My ambition is to make a documentary on their lives and I continue to collect beautiful 4K material.
South-east Queensland has over 400 species of birds but there are a handful that I find particularly engaging, the Eastern Whipbird being one of them.
This species is generally quite wary and tends to keep concealed. They scurry across the forest floor, stopping to turn over leaves and vegetation in their search for food. Whipbird's diet includes small insects, spiders and grubs. They will also eat seeds and fruit.
Eastern Whip birds nest in winter. A small stick nest is made low down in the fork of a tree, where 2-3 eggs are laid.
