A Passion Play by a rural Limerick community asks the actors and the audience to be part of a special event.
The Village of Nicker near Pallasgreen and its environs are the locations for 'Passion 2014'. This ambitious project is an immersive theatre performance telling the story of Jesus' betrayal, arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, and subsequent trial and crucifixion.
Starting on Holy Thursday night, an audience of approximately five thousand people found themselves participants in the action rather than spectators.
A cast of over thirty people, supported by a team of forty, worked for six months directed by local man Eamonn Harty, himself an amateur actor.
Marie Louise O’Donnell, reporting for the RTÉ Radio One programme ‘Today With Seán O’Rourke’ was deeply moved by the play which she describes as
"The play about all our lives."
Jesus is played by local garage owner Garry Fraher, who explains, how the cast set out to tell the story and engage the audience from the start.
Producer and director Eamonn Harty worked with the actors to portray ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary situation, including the role of Jesus,
