I went back into the Bridge fire area and show the fire damage and the alterations the heavy rains had and are having on areas throughout the entire canyon, from the parking lot all the way to Fish Fork. I will show you in depth the changes and tell you the points hit the worst and how they have been changed. I begin my hike at 5:30 am and hike all the way back to Fish fork, stopping along the way to tell the history of this canyon, both in the 1800's and 1900's and up to modern day hikers and prospectors who have had a part in the canyons history.
I stop and visit a few friends and bring them something for the fact, I AM BACK. Hear a little of the "word on the trail" and further my understanding of what has changed. To make it to Fish Fork and back in a day is NO EASY TREK! But to do so, then while kicking back with Ron, (the owner of Bungie America), three guys wanting to "buy water" came up and when I told them to drink straight from the river, they didn't believe me, so I took them down the "Taliban camp" trail to the river and back out the low trail. This adds a mile or two of rough, river hoping, semi trail. But, I showed then the Annex mine, the Horseshoe, Devils falls, Rattle snake gulch, all the cabin remains, and more. Thee guys were in their 20 and strong looking fit guys. But I wore then OUT! When the saw it was near dark and we still had miles to go, as soon as they thought they recognized the trail, they set off on their own when I stopped to film something. They said they were parked near the Oak pic nic, so I figured either way, I catch up to them. I got out at 9:30pm, that would be roughly 15.5 to 16 hours non stop hiking on river rocks! I was happy to be back but no sign of them. I drove down to the Oaks and never saw anyone walking. I figured something had happened and went back to the lot to ask a few guys hanging out. I saw them right below the old mine that you can see from Shoemaker, walking like dawn of the dead down the road. They jumped in the back of my truck and I took them down to their car. They had had the FULL $3 TOUR and would feel it in the morning. I may be turning 60, but I can keep up with the young guns. If you go, PLEASE, take a trash bag and grab a little here and there. The road to the Heaton Flat is destroyed as of now and the rangers cant drive back to get the trash out by truck. PLEASE help out and do your part. We have this beautiful canyon back for now, lets NOT GIVE THEM A REASON TO CLOSE IT PERMANATLY!
