In January of 1977, 29-year-old Suzanne Armstrong and twenty-seven-year-old Susan Bartlett were brutally stabbed to death (Armstrong 29 times and Bartlett 55 times) in the home their shared in Melbourne, Australia. One was sexually assaulted. The number of suspects was quite large, good suspects, very good suspects, yet no one was ever convicted. At the time, DNA testing wasn't available but DNA WAS used years later and the best of the suspects were eliminated. Since the crime remains unsolved, there are accusations of police incompetence and corruption. Is this criticism fair? Was the police investigation a failure or was this case particular puzzling? Who committed this crime? Was he one of the known suspects or someone no one suspected at all?
