Welcome to Mt. Ord in Arizona! Mt Ord is located right off the Beeline Highway, Route 87, between Phoenix and Payson, AZ.
The road up Mt. Ord is a well maintained, wide dirt road, that we felt most vehicles can drive. So it's not just for hardcore offroaders!
The main draw here is getting to the top, and seeing the expansive views off the mountain, where you can see in many different directions. You'll see Roosevelt Lake, route 87, the Four Peaks, and much more from your vantage point above 7000 feet.
You'll be able to park near the top, but a gate prohibits unauthorized vehicles from going all the way up, but you can use your feet to do so!
It's a pretty easy hike up the road from where you can park, so don't miss it! You'll eventually see the lookout tower and cell phone towers, which is where the best views are located.
For those living in the hot Sonoran desert and Phoenix area, Mt. Ord is one of the closet places you can go to to temporarily escape the extreme heat and enjoy the cool shade of high elevation ponderosa pine forests.
This makes for a perfect casual Sunday drive for those looking for something a little different.
