Basis: monsters learn that they cannot survive without humans’ determination and start trying to quite literally eat other monsters to somehow survive. If they can’t eat them they will manipulate them to the point at which they can use their powers. The monsters who do this are usually boss monsters, those who are able to feed on smaller monsters. It became taboo not long into life in the underground, Toriel the ex. Queen started a peace revolution to rally for there to be no consumption of other monsters. Some boss monsters however, such as the royal guards are suspected of having done so at least once in their time in the guard. Determination, despite its benefits to the HP and ATK of boss monsters, actually melts and kills smaller monsters. These monsters, in their determination melted state can be consumed for food.
Effects of DT on a monsters strength:
+5 HP: when initially consumed
+10 ATK PTS: immediately
-KM (karma): drains your KM at higher levels
-DEF: at LVL 20 or higher (because it is implied that you have already consumed other monsters)
Monster souls don’t handle DT well, definitely not as well as human souls. So when you consume a human soul (which have naturally occuring DT) it doesn’t affect your KM or DEF, instead basically turning you into a god.
