I discuss the allure of Double Indemnity in James M Cain’s 1936 novel and the 1944 film adaptation by Raymond Chandler and Billy Wilder.
Cain’s novel is underrated and not the mere rehashing of The Postman Always Rings Twice that some claim. However the film adaptation evolves every aspect of the story into something truly magical. It remains one of the finest screenplays ever written.
