EDIT: Viewers have pointed out that I incorrectly stated when the main Mt St Helens eruption occurred. While a smaller eruption did occur on March 27, the main and most memorable eruption happened on May 18. I apologize for the error.

Joe Carter disappeared on May 21, 1950, while skiing with friends near Ape Canyon on Mt. St. Helens. The only evidence he left behind was a trail in the snow indicating he was running away from something at a frantic pace. Ape Canyon has an interesting history dating back to 1924 when a group of miners was harassed at their cabin by a group of "mountain devils".
