Mills grew up in the UK countryside where, as she put it, “there was nothing but fields of sheep.” She started painting around age 4, taught by her grandmother. She continued to study art in high school but got no formal training beyond that. After leaving school and selling insurance for a while, she decided to get back into painting.
In the aftermath of Covid, Mills moved to London where one of her new friends, an artist, opened her eyes to the possibility of art as a full-time career. Unlike where she grew up, she found London to be inspiring with all the art, museums and beautiful parks and buildings. You can see it in her love for painting landscapes and landmarks. Mills also creates portraits of iconic people and romantic scenes, sometimes even showing a bit of whimsy, like her painting of a goldfish wearing a shark disguise.
Her process is to sketch out the image she has in mind first with pencil or using procreate. But there are also times she just goes for it and starts painting on the canvas without sketching first. While painting, Mills tends to sit cross-legged on the floor, her dog curled up at her side. Although she admits to sometimes stealing the dog bed for more cushion as she sits and paints.
As her artistry grew, Mills developed her own distinctive style. Using mostly acrylic paint and occasionally oil-based paints, she creates colorful abstracts, building the images out of geometrical shapes that coalesce into a fluid mosaic feel that is both fresh and beautiful.
Now this former country girl finds herself traveling all over the world as collectors become captivated by the unique beauty and style of this up-and-coming artist.
