In the 20th Century we saw communism tried in authoritarian ways–ways that critics called communist dictatorships. Today in the United States we are living in late-stage capitalism and we are seeing that capitalism devolve into another form of dictatorship– the dictatorship of money. We see this all over the place. Every time you turn around you see the interests of corporations crushing the interests of individuals. Money rules everything. I’ve always considered myself a capitalist and you probably have too, but that’s just a conceit we tell ourselves. Very few of us are really capitalists in the sense that we control capital (money) and invest it in employing and exploiting labor in order to make more capital. If you get a W2, you’re not a real capitalist. So where do regular folks fit in this “dictatorship of money” we are now living in? We fit.. at the bottom. The majority of us are pushed ever downward financially so that the Epstein Class running the corporations can grab more. You may have noticed that late-stage capitalism–in its old age–is getting really cranky. Those looking for a change are considering something that was for years a dirty word in America–Socialism. By its very name it seeks to serve the needs of people–social, people–as opposed to capitalism which serves the needs of.. capital. We have all been propagandized for years to think that putting people first was bad, that it would somehow lead to dictatorship. The very place capitalism has brought us today–a dictatorship of money. We were never supposed to think about things like this. And as long as it felt like we were living in a relatively free country, we didn’t. Now we are.
