Devils Island Prison in French Guyana.
The penal colony of Cayenne in French Guyana (in French, Bagne de Cayenne), is known as Devil's Island (Île du Diable). Devil’s was a French penal colony that operated for 100 years (1852 to 1952) and officially closed in 1953, in the Salvation Islands of French Guiana.
I few years ago I saw the film Le papillon translated as The Butterfly. Le Papillon (1973) was a film about the escape from this prison. The film stars Steve McQueen as Charrière ("Papillon") and Dustin Hoffman as Louis Dega.
