Adam Curtis is my favorite filmmaker, and this is the biggest reason. He shows how even the people who thought they were fighting the system, the radicals, the artists, the whole counterculture, became part of the trick. They retreated into the same make-believe world everyone else did. So their opposition lands nowhere and nothing ever changes. We all went along with it because the simplicity was reassuring.
